Air Travel

Downtown San Diego is located three miles from San Diego International Airport. For those of you who may be arriving by private plane, might we suggest the exceptional charter services provided by Landmark Aviation San Diego under the guidance of their handsome General Manager, Mr. Charlie Ferraro.

Hotels

Any hotel in the Gaslamp District or Downtown San Diego will be a short cab ride from the airport, church and USS Midway.

We have blocks of hotel rooms for guests reserved at three downtown San Diego Gaslamp District hotels. The hotel rates listed below will be extended to guests in a reserved block up until September 5, 2012. After September 5, the same wedding rates are available to guests if the hotel has availability. The Embassy Suites block has been extended until September 15.

Transportation

The wedding events, downtown hotels and San Diego International Airport are all within a cab ride of each other. If you are planning to check out the beaches and other sites of San Diego outside of downtown, you might consider renting a car from either the San Diego International Airport or from one of the downtown rental car agency offices. Overnight parking at the downtown hotels is in the $25-$30/night range.

There will be bus transportation provided from the downtown hotels on the day of the wedding to the church and from the church to the reception site. The reception site is walkable from most downtown hotels and cabs line up outside the USS Midway when events end to take you back to your hotels (or out on the town).

Things to Do in San Diego

There are no shortage of activities to do, sites to see and great places to eat and drink in San Diego. Here is a short list of our favorites:

Old Town Trolley Tours: Hop on and off an open-air trolley tour around San Diego and Coronado.

Ferry to Coronado: Take the San Diego – Coronado Ferry to check out Coronado Island. Rent a bike on the downtown San Diego side and take it on the boat or rent at the Coronado Ferry Landing and ride to the famous Hotel del Coronado.

Visit Balboa Park: Built for the 1915 California-Panama Exposition and covering 1,200 acres, Balboa Park is home to many world-class museums and the San Diego Zoo.

Tour Petco Park: Since the Padres will no doubt not be playing baseball in October, consider touring their empty but fascinating ballpark located in the heart of the Gaslamp District in downtown San Diego.

Our favorite restaurant – and fateful first date place: Café Sevilla at 353 Fifth Ave.

Katie’s favorite bar – and site of many late night Irish sing-alongs: The Field at 544 Fifth Ave.

Charlie’s favorite bar – and where all good Pittsburgh fans hang out: Bub’s at 715 J. St.
