First Responders – The Essigs

With an impressive one-day turnaround on the response card, George & Theresa Essig have been confirmed as the first RSVPs for the wedding! Stating that they have “cancelled all previous engagements to attend”, the Essigs are officially on board.

George and Theresa of Poway, CA have been family friends of the Clarks for 30 years. Mr. Essig was Katie’s basketball coach at St. Michael’s in Poway, where he nicknamed her “Crash Clark” for her outstanding 3rd grade rebounding abilities.

A few years ago, the Essigs made a guest appearance on the Clark family vacation in Hanalei, Kauai, where they graciously participated as last minute entrants in the first (and only) annual “Hanalympics”.

No stranger to backyard athletic competitions herself, Theresa represented Team Essig in the Blindfolded Beer Can Crawl – frantically collecting scattered beer cans without the gift of sight.

The hotly contested race came down to the wire, but Mrs. Essig ultimately lost out to Johnny Clark of Team Weke Trainwecky:

Despite placing dead last in Hanalympics, the Essigs refused to let their defeat overshadow their love for one another. Watch out Johnny, they claim to be looking for a rematch on the flight deck of the USS Midway.

Thanks for your RSVP George & Theresa and we can’t wait to celebrate with you at the wedding!

Katie, your writing skills make me laugh out loud particularly in this post…”first and only annual Hanalympics” and my favorite “Team Weke Trainwrecky” :) I’ve already started to train for next year’s Hanalympics should we continue the tradition.
